Getting your Health Check at the pharmacy couldn’t be easier. Contact us to make your appointment.
Pharmacists frequently provide information and advice to the public on how to become and stay more healthy. The pharmacists participating in this scheme have received further training to provide full NHS Health Checks.
Where will the health check take place and how long will it take?
The pharmacists included in this scheme have a seperate consultation room within the main pharmacy. Your confidential health check will be undertaken by the pharmacist in private, and will take between 20 to 30 minutes.
When can I have my health check at a pharmacy?
We can provide a health check during the lunchtime period, early evening or on a Saturday. Contact us for an appointment. Some pharmacies may also be able to offer a walk in appointment at certain times.
What happens at the check?
The check is carried out the same way it would be if you visited your GP surgery. The same measurements, including weight, height, blood pressure, cholesterol and waist circumference will be taken by the pharmacist.
The only difference if you choose to go to a pharmacy, is that you do not need to have a blood test before your check. The pharmacist will measure your cholesterol by doing a finger prick blood test. The results will be available while you wait and will be explained to you as part of the check.
The pharmacist will also be able to order any further blood tests if these are required, like your GP would. If your blood pressure is high, this may include a blood test to check your kidneys and to check for diabetes. All results will be sent to your GP.
The pharmacist will give you comprehensive personalised health advice on how to lower risk and maintain a healthy lifestyle. They can also direct you to physical activity schemes within Lewisham and provide you with support to stop smoking if this is needed.
Will my GP be informed of the results of my check?
Yes, the results of your check will be automatically sent to the GP practice you are registered with. If you are not registered with a GP but are a Lewisham resident, the pharmacist will be able to carry out your check, and will then signpost you to register with a local GP.
